Youth Discount Cards

To get a TransLink® youth discount, you must apply for a specially encoded TransLink card in person.

When you apply for a youth card, be prepared to present one of the following accepted forms of identification:

  • A driver's license or state identification card
  • An original copy of the applicant's birth certificate
  • A notarized copy of the applicant's birth certificate
  • The applicant's current passport
  • A federal government-issued "green card" (also called an Alien Registration card or Permanent Resident Card)
  • A Matricula Consular card issued by the Mexican government (also referred to as a Consular Identification Card)
  • A Military Identification card or Military Dependent card

If a birth certificate is used as proof of eligibility, an adult must accompany the youth applying for a card to a participating transit agency ticket office. Transit operator staff will encode birth date information directly onto the card. Appropriate discounts will be applied when you use your card (eligibility varies by transit agency—visit 511.org or call 511 for more information). Youth discounts will no longer be granted when your age exceeds the allowable age for youth discounts as established by the transit agency being used.

Currently only Golden Gate Transit issues youth cards, and discounted youth passes are not yet available with TransLink. AC Transit will honor youth cards distributed by Golden Gate Transit for use with e-cash only. Youth TransLink cards are available at Golden Gate Transit's ticket offices:

  • Golden Gate Ferry Terminal, behind the Ferry Building at the foot of Market St., San Francisco
  • Larkspur Ferry Terminal, 101 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.
  • San Rafael Administration Building, 1011 Andersen Dr., Rafael 94901 (weekdays only)
