Using TransLink on AC Transit

AC Transit currently offers adult TransLink cards for use with e-cash and adult 31-day passes.

Tips

Current 10-ride ticket users should purchase e-cash value since it offers greater convenience than tickets and costs the same.

You must pay any single fare entirely with cash or entirely with your TransLink card. You cannot pay a portion with cash and a portion with your TransLink card.

For local trips on a transbay bus, you must tell the driver you are a local rider before tagging your card. The driver will switch the TransLink card reader to "local" to deduct the local fare instead of the more expensive transbay fare.

You don't need a paper transfer to transfer between AC Transit buses. The cost of the transfer is automatically deducted when you tag your card on the second bus.

But if you transfer from AC Transit (or Golden Gate Transit and Ferry) to a transit system that does not yet accept TransLink, use your TransLink card on the first leg of your journey, but ask the operator for a paper transfer for the next leg, just as you do today.

Refunds or exchanges for AC Transit passes on your TransLink card are not allowed.

Bus or ferry operators are not able to fix TransLink card problems or issue a credit, nor can they tell you the value on your card or when value was last added. In the event of a problem using TransLink, you will have to pay your fare with cash and then contact the TransLink Customer Service Center to get the problem resolved.
