SFMTA Welcomes TransLink® on Muni!

Join the TransLink Trial Group and Be Heard!

The highly anticipated arrival of TransLink on Muni is almost here! The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is in its trial phase and needs your help.

BE AMONG THE FIRST!

The SFMTA is inviting a limited number of Muni customers to become trial participants for TransLink, the Bay Area's new way to pay for transit fares. This trial phase is essential to helping the SFMTA ensure that TransLink is fully functional before it is made available to all Muni customers.

As a member of the TransLink trial group, you'll receive a complimentary TransLink card. To use the card, you'll need to electronically load value onto it in the form of e-cash (which works like cash fare) or a monthly Fast Pass®. Click on the "Fares and Passes" tab on the left to learn how e-cash and Fast Passes work and to find out how to add value to your TransLink card. You can also use your transit benefits, such as Commuter Check® or Wage Works®, to load value. Once you've added value to your TransLink card, it's ready to use! Tag your TransLink card to a card reader each time you enter a fare gate or board a bus, light rail vehicle or historic streetcar instead of inserting cash into the fare box or showing the operator or station agent your Fast Pass. As a member of the TransLink trial group, you will:

  • Reinforce the training of TransLink retailers and Customer Service staff, as well as SFMTA staff.
  • Report any problems that you experience with TransLink to the TransLink Customer Service Center.

*IMPORTANT: TransLink cannot be used on cable cars. You will not be able to use TransLink to pay your fare on this service. If you currently use a Fast Pass to ride cable cars, we recommend that you continue to purchase a paper Fast Pass and wait until TransLink is accepted by this service.

To be a TransLink trial participant, you must:

  • Provide us with your first and last name, address, email address and phone number (your card will be mailed to you within a few weeks).
  • Commit to using your TransLink card on Muni on a regular basis.
  • Respond to a series of online surveys about your experience. To thank you for your time, your completed survey will be entered to win prizes valued at $50.
